As a preliminary study, an investigation of the Row House was conducted. Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando in Osaka, Japan, the house successfully adapts to the limited space of the Sumiyoshi District by turning the house inside-out. Ando encloses the interior with a minimalist concrete facade and creates three interior divisions (solid-void-solid). The two solids on either side represent the living and sleeping quarters, while the void in the center acts as an interior courtyard that attracts sunlight and fresh air, representing a natural oasis within the bustling urban neighbourhood.
